Carolina The Village Gallery: Sue Henry Art
Artist

Sue has a life-long passion for coastal living and the water. She describes it as “an intuitively personal relationship with the water” that began with competitive swimming as a child that has continued through adulthood. Her work focuses on images from her early sailing years, summers on the coast of Maine, cruising in the Caribbean, travels in the South Pacific, and life in coastal Carolina.

Sue majored in art at Wagner College and graduated from Gettysburg College. She did further study in art at the University of Nice in France and at Penn State. After college, she went to Los Angeles for a brief stint in television production and stage set design. More recently, Sue owned a marine graphic art studio in Oriental for 30 years and following that, now devotes large portions of her time to painting. For the past two summers, she studied with Donald Demers, a renowned Maine artist, whose fascination with coastal scenes resonates with her own. As a result of this experience, Sue is incorporating many of his exciting techniques into her own work. She’s continued this trend with regular outings with the Oriental Plein Air group. Sue’s work has received honors in numerous juried shows, including recent shows at Art from the Heart in Morehead, Bank of the Arts in New Bern, and ArtWorks2010.
